For Veterans, homeless, single parents, our next generations: There is TOO much atrocity to absorb with seeming endlessness.. Where is faith? What will we do to preserve dignity, humanity, and civil rights ? Is it my problem? Can I make a difference? Can joining a collective arbitration have a louder voice? What is the true cost? Who will stand in unity to defend America's Future? Back up or Rise up. I'm in...you? Let's DO SOMETHING!
EARN WHILE GIVING....The best way to understand all that is being accomplished and hear the details and the veterans that are being helped is through a "20 min briefing" call.

NM: ALBUQUERQUEJOY JUNCTIONSaturday, August 8, 200910,000 Meals a Month Deplete Joy Junction Food Supplies News Release from Joy Junction
Contact Jeremy Reynalds at (505) 400-7145
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (ANS) -- Hundreds of homeless men, women and families continue to call Joy Junction --Albuquerque's largest emergency homeless shelter -- for a ride to safety, rest and a hot meal. Shelter officials say the two-decade-plus old ministry has been feeding and sheltering more than 300 people nightly. That's about 9,000-plus nights of shelter and almost 10,000 meals a month
A few years ago, Joy Junction fed and cared for around 150 people a night. Now that number is regularly over 300 people nightly, and showing no signs of decreasing even in these hot summer days. All the extra meals have put a serious strain on the shelter's food supplies. Some refrigerator and freezer shelves just don’t have the supplies left to feed all the shelter guests who rely on Joy Junction for their next meal.... The rest of the story
The county code enforcers, not content with their attempts to bankrupt and jail him for housing the homeless, have told Dan DeVaul he can’t go in his own damn home. DeVaul lives in a rustic little apartment above the barn where he keeps some of his cars and a small office. The code enforcers sauntered in the other day, presumably wearing their ever-ready flak jackets, and posted a sign warning him he can’t enter the barn or even his own home anymore.
Of course, they didn’t begin or end there. They’ve also shut down the kitchen where residents are fed, and pretty much every other building except the Victorian farmhouse where most of the residents sleep. READ MORE... UNBELIEVABLE!
For RE BarCamp San Francisco, we would like to take the power of our community and make meaningful change. As real estate professionals, our occupations revolve around housing. Unfortunately, not everyone in our society is blessed with the ability to have a place to call home. Consider these statistics:
* Right now there are more homeless children in the United States than at any other time since the Great Depression.
* One in four San Francisco Bay Area families can’t afford the basics of housing, food, healthcare and childcare without some kind of public assistance. (United Way of the Bay Area report)
* The average income for the poorest fifth of San Francisco households is just $10,019 a year. (Institute for the Study of Homelessness and Poverty)
* There is virtually no affordable housing in San Francisco. Applicants for Section 8 federal housing typically spend 5-8 years on the waiting list. (San Francisco Chronicle report
So, how can we individuals and companies in the real estate community impart change on the problem of homelessness?

MI: ANN ARBOR
“I have designed a personal shelter in the form of a vehicle that can potentially be used by those experiencing homelessness. This vehicle is by no means a cure for homelessness but rather a concept piece that I have created to explore the issue. As the vehicle is fully functional, I am testing it and recording the reaction of the Ann Arbor community. The testing phase includes my personal trials of homelessness which is a process I have developed to help me understand the life of a homeless person. I will be sharing my experiences through video, website, written documentation, and illustration.”

NY, NY: START SPREADING THE NEWS... HOME FREE ORG
Amazing Creativity, ingenuity an determination have abounded in the streets of New York. Justin Farrow has a story and mission. Home Free Organization is a non-profit initiative to eradicate homelessness in urban environments through the provision of free wireless internet, social networking and resource allotment. We take donated bread trucks which have come off route and add donated computers and hardware to create mobile wireless access hubs for homeless individuals to utilize for finding family, jobs, resources and ways off the street. The goal is simple: Provide a resource for the homeless which will allow them to find ways off the street.

NV: LAS VEGAS CORRIDOR OF HOPE
Foremaster Lane is between Las Vegas Boulevard North and Main Street. A kind of tent city has occupied Foremaster for decades, to the chagrin of business owners and city officials. But concern about the homeless near Foremaster and Main — the “homeless corridor” — has surfaced again. An alarming and growing number of multicolored tents have turned up on the sidewalks along both roads. During the City Council’s March 18 meeting, several council members spoke heatedly about the problem. W5 Councilman Ricki Barlow said “At night they take over the entire street. It’s like a little town.” HELL ON FOREMASTER LANE WORDPRESS ARTICLE
4MASTER, a local organization in embryonic stages, is gathering leaders AND followers of the community and churches to assist the Homeless "Corridor of Hope" Project: "This area has always contained the largest number of homeless in the Southern Nevada region. Over the years various efforts have been undertaken to improve the conditions of the homeless, as well as assist the community at large who live and work in the area". 4MASTER PURPOSE: To implement a comprehensive community based approach to deal with the Corridor and impact the homeless problem as a whole. 4MASTER VISION: Safe Streets for all who live and work in the Corridor and to help get the homeless off the streets. Some A3W members are already on board.

WA: SEATTLE Nickelsville: Organized "Fuschia" Tent City
Advocates for the homeless erected about 150 fuchsia-colored tents on public land to draw attention to the needs of homeless. After being tossed off "Public" property, churches helping out, someone getting them a website to post news and email the Governor, the homeless of Seattle were allowed some land to use and created "Nickelsville". This is an organized encampment or "Tent City" complete with rules:
Zoned areas for different uses
Specific jobs for all parties who come to live there.
No sex offenders.
No drinking.
No drugs.
Quiet time is 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.
There is
Camp Security
HDQTRS
information
an American flag
a mail box
a bulletin board with a long list of needed items ( also on their website)
a guard — everyone takes turns — that meets anyone entering the compound.
It makes the residents feel safe.
"It's home," "It's really comfortable." The story is an eyeopener.
What started out as a marketing project reached the hearts of America. It began with a documentary on Tim Edwards, homeless for 5 years. Pimp This Bum surgically selects individuals, assesses the root causes for their condition, and prescribes a very individual solution to get them back into society. A3W has the video posted, but for more info, visit the website. It offers live chat, the ease of donations through paypal and other resources. PTB is administrated entirely by volunteers. All donations go directly to assisting the intended recipients. Hope is here and Tim is online every night at 9. pimpthisbum.com

How does the Census Bureau account for homeless people?
In Census 2000 special procedures were designed to include in the total count people living in homeless shelters on a designated night (March 27, 2000), people receiving free meals at soup kitchens at a designated time on March 28, 2000, and people found living at designated street locations on March 29, 2000.
The Census Bureau never intended these counts to be released as a total homeless count since in fact, they are not. In 2001 some states began their counts. They are done every two years. 2009 is one of those years. Tallies are not in for this year yet.
At a higher level, the findings help quantify for policy makers (and, indeed, for the rest of us) our society's failure to ensure that every person has a safe, decent place to call home. Until this goal is achieved, we should continue sending volunteers out every January into dark woods, dirty dumpsters, cold subway stations, and dingy sidewalks to see how people must live when ending homelessness is not a national priority.
Perhaps LA homelessness blogger Joel John Roberts of PATH (People Assisting the Homeless) said it best: "The number of homeless on our streets is way more than what is acceptable for this First World country we call America".
